Studio 21

Challenge

The tattoo industry relies heavily on predictable visual tropes: dark gothic scripts, skulls, heavy vintage textures, and aggressive counter-culture motifs. Studio 21 was created to challenge that default, repositioning tattooing not as an aggressive novelty, but as contemporary body craft and architectural art.

Concept & Logo Process

The identity balances street-rooted tattoo culture with modern graphic discipline. The custom logotype evolved from dense, interlocking bubble graffiti lettering. By refining the anatomy of the glyphs, detaching the numerical mark, and elevating the "21" into an exponent-like position, the lockup shifts from raw street tag to a precise, badge-like insignia with intentional negative space and high contrast.

Solution

The visual system trades chaotic grit for architectural calm. Bold, organic logotype contours are paired with stark monochrome palettes and tactile print finishes across care guides, stationery, exterior blade signage, and digital booking touchpoints.
